SOUTHERN ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT COUNCIL
1. WHAT IS THE SASC?
The SASC is the nation's oldest multi-state student council association. The SASC consists of member schools from 15 southern states.
2. WHO SPONSORS THE SASC?
The SASC is self sponsored. SASC policies, regulations, and programs are established and reviewed by the advisors from member schools in attendance at the annual SASC conference.
3. HOW IS THE SASC ORGANIZED?
The leadership of the SASC is provided by and Executive Secretary, an Eastern Advisor, a Western Advisor and a group of student elected officers. The student officers are president, vice-president, secretary and parliamentarian.
The student officers are elected each year at the annual conference by delegates from member schools in attendance. The Eastern and Western Advisors and the Executive Secretary are elected in alternate years by advisors from member schools in attendance at the conference and serve a two-year term.
4. WHAT ARE THE DUTIES OF SASC OFFICERS AND WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR ELECTION?
Briefly, the president school hosts the annual convention, the vice-president school is responsible for workshops at the convention, the secretary keeps records of 11 officer meetings and the proceedings at the convention, and the parliamentarian is responsible for elections. 5. WHEN AND WHERE IS THE SASC ANNUAL CONFERENCE HELD?
The annual conference is held in the fall of each year, lasts for three days (usually Saturday, Sunday, and Monday) and is hosted by the school elected president at the preceding conference.
At the conference, advisors are housed in a local hotel and, until 1989, students were housed in homes in the host community. The 1989 Conference was the first in SASC history at which students were also housed in a hotel. The host school has the option of determining housing arrangements for the conference.
6. HOW MUCH ARE SASC DUES AND WHERE DO I SEND THEM?
SASC dues are $30.00 and should be sent with the membership form to:

Dues can be paid any time prior to the election assembly at the annual conference, but must be paid for a school to cast its ballots for association officers.
7. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF JOINING THE SASC?
As an active member of the SASC your council will be able to send delegates to the annual conference, enter the awards program competition, enter a senior in the Leadership Scholarship Program, receive quarterly newsletters, run for SASC office after two years of membership, and open lines of communication with other schools throughout the southeast.
8. WHAT IS THE SASC MEMBERSHIP YEAR?
The SASC membership year runs from January 1 to December 31.
9. WHAT, IN ADDITION TO THE ELECTION OF OFFICERS, TAKES PLACE AT AN SASC CONFERENCE?
The program at the SASC conference is filled with workshops, first class motivational speakers, entertainment and competitive events.
10. WHAT ARE THE SASC COMPETITIVE EVENTS?
Information forms for the SASC competitive events will arrive with your conference information packet. Schools receive the competition packet when they register to attend the conference.
11. DOES THE SASC HAVE BANNERS AND PIN AVAILABLE?
The SASC Logo appears in this section. Currently, however, there is neither an SASC banner nor pin available.
