Advisor's Organizations

1. IS THERE AN ORGANIZATION SPECIFICALLY FOR STUDENT COUNCIL ADVISORS?

Yes, in May of 1981, student council advisors formed an organization called the Florida Association of Student Council Advisors (FASCA). Membership in this organization is limited to secondary student council advisors and those interested in student council on the secondary (middle and high school) level. Dues for the FASCA are $30.00 and can be paid each year at the annual FASC Conference or at your convenience.

2. HOW DO I JOIN THE FASCA?

Fill out a membership form and send it with your dues payment to the FASCA Secretary/Treasurer. The FASCA membership application appears in this section.

3. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF FASCA MEMBERSHIP?

FASCA Benefits include:

a. The right to attend the annual advisors clinic.

b. Informational newsletters, new publications and basic information regarding the role of an advisor.

c. Assistance with specific advisor needs.

d. A professional organization designed to provide advisors with a voice to the administering body of the FASC.

e. Materials exchange.

f. Special advisor's workshops at the FASC convention.

4. WHAT AND WHEN IS THE ANNUAL ADVISORS CLINIC?

In 1989, the FASCA reintroduced the concept of an annual advisorsā€˜ workshop called a clinic. The clinic lasts for one day and is an inexpensive way for advisors to learn, grow and share. In 1991-92, two clinics where held one in the Fall and one in the Winter. In 1993-94, only one clinic, in the Fall, was held. From that date on the FASCA Clinic has been held in the Fall.

5. WHEN DOES THE FASCA MEET?

The FASCA now meets once a year at the FASC convention.

6. WHAT IS THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WORKSHOP DIRECTORS?

NAWD was started by Dr. Earl Reum as an organization of workshop directors and consultants. Its original purpose was to allow workshop directors and consultants to share information. It has now expanded into a national student council advisor's organization and, while its original purpose remains intact, its annual December meeting has expanded to become a national advisors clinic.

7. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF NAWD MEMBERSHIP?

NAWD benefits include eligibility to attend the annual December workshop and somewhat regular packets of information.

8. HOW MUCH ARE NAWD DUES AND WHERE DO I SEND THEM?

Dues for membership in NAWD are $50.00 annually. Checks should be made payable to NAWD and sent to:
