The eighteenth annual convention of Broward County Association of Student Councils will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010 , at Pompano Beach High School. Pompano Beach High School is located at 600 NE 13th Avenue, Pompano Beach, FL. The convention will begin at 8:00a.m. end at 3:30p.m. A continental breakfast and lunch will be served. Students should dress appropriately. The registration fee to attend the convention is $35.00 per student delegate. There is no charge for one adult chaperone for your school's delegation. Completed registration forms and registration fees (checks only) must be sent to the Office of Activities and Athletics at Lockhart Stadium by Thursday, April 29, 2010 . All checks must be payable to School Board of Broward County , Student Activities. The cost for one faculty sponsor or chaperone (including the cost of one substitute teacher per school) to attend the convention will be absorbed by the Office of Student Activities. The coding for the substitute teacher is: Business Area: your school info. Type: 3 for high school, 2 for middle school, Location: your school, General: Zero (0), Functional Area: 5719761000000000. The $35.00 dollar registration fee must be paid for any additional adults. The convention agenda will include workshops, presentation of county awards, and the election of the 2010-2011 BCASC officers. High schools are required to have at least as many underclassmen as they have seniors in their delegations. Middle school delegates may be from any level. There will be two small group workshop sessions during the convention. Each session will consist of eight to ten different workshops. Each delegate will attend one workshop per session. There is a limit of four students from a particular school attending a single small group session. Tickets to the workshops will be available upon arrival at the convention. If your school wishes to run for one of the elected offices (president, high school vice-president, middle school vice-president, secretary, parliamentarian, or treasurer), you must be a member of Broward County Association of Student Councils, and have written permission from your principal and advisor. The advisor of the president school must agree to be in attendance at all BCASC meetings. The specific duties of officer schools may be found in the BCASC Constitution. Attached you will find a Dress Code reminder and convention registration form. Please take note of the directions and deadlines as this will facilitate registration and eliminate errors. Schools are responsible for making transportation arrangements for their delegation. Upon arrival at the convention you will receive a convention packet, which will include: convention books, name-tags, and a request for some of your delegates to serve on one of the conventions working committees. The BCASC convention will be fun and educational for both student leaders and faculty advisors. For safety reasons, zoris, flip-flops, thongs, and bedroom slippers must not be worn. 2. Clothing that exposes the torso or upper thighs is not allowed. Examples of clothing which may not be worn are: see-through garments, mini-skirts or mini-dresses, halters, backless dresses, tube tops or tank tops without over-blouses or shirts, shirts or blouses tied at the midriff. 3. Garments such as boxer shorts, bloomers, and bustiers, which were traditionally designed as undergarments may not be worn as outer garments. Other clothing not allowed are leggings without over-blouses that reach mid thigh, tights or hosiery including those with lace trim, and bicycle racing attire unless underneath dresses, skirts, or appropriate shorts. Appropriate tee shirts may be worn as outer garments. 4. Students may not wear shorts or jeans with holes of any kind. 5. Students are not allowed to wear clothing, jewelry, buttons, haircuts, or other items or markings which are offensive, suggestive, or indecent, associated with gangs, encourage use of drugs, alcohol, violence, or support discrimination on the basis of age, color, handicap, national origin, marital status, race religion, or sex. 6. Head coverings including, but not limited to caps, hats, and bandanas are not allowed unless they are required for safety programs such as home economics, industrial arts, and vocational education, or are worn for bonafide religious or medical reasons. 7. Curlers and other hair grooming aids are not allowed. Personal grooming including, but not limited to combing, brushing, spraying hair, and applying cosmetics are allowed only in restrooms and or designated areas. 8. Sunglasses may no be worn indoors unless a doctor's permit is on file. 9. Any articles of clothing or jewelry that may cause injury, such as belts or bracelets with spikes are not allowed.
