QUALIFICATIONS: Education -Master's degree with a related major, from
 

an accredited college or university.

Experience -Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience in the Broward County School District, or eight (8) years of successful outside teaching experience, including a minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in Broward County.

Special Qualifications -Demonstrated leadership ability in working with other administrators, teachers, coaches, advisors, students, parents, and the general public.

Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

   

DIRECT ACCOUNTABILITY:

 
Director of Student Activities and Athletics
   
SUPERVISION: All student activities.
   
GOAL: To plan and implement quality student activities to
  meet the learning needs of students and promote and develop leadership service, and a wide variety of special skills which prepare students to be well-rounded young adults capable of functioning satisfactorily in society. To assist in the development and implementation of a county-wide athletic program.
   

ACCOUNTABILITY PROCEDURES:

 
The Director of Student Activities and Athletics will
 

assess the effectiveness of the Coordinator I, Student Activities and Athletics annually with respect to the performance of specific responsibilities.

   

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
The Coordinator I, Student Activities shall:
   
 

1. Plan, coordinate, and provide leadership and direction for all county-wide and individual school activities and programs.

2. Serve as the primary resource person and consultant to administrators, teacher leaders, student leaders, sponsors, and all others working to promote a wide range of student activities which develop leadership, service, and a variety of social skills.

3. Work with Human Resource Development to establish and deliver a comprehensive inservice program for administrators, teacher leaders, student leaders, advisory committees, and others working with this important program.

4. Provide in-put to The School Board of Broward County, Florida following meetings with student council, teacher leaders, student leaders, advisory committees, etc., relative to student recommendations for the improvement of Broward County Schools.

5. Provide materials, resources, and information to teacher leaders, student leaders, and advisory committees.

6. Develop and initiate leadership programs which improve communication among facilities, students, and the community.

7. Develop guidelines and procedures which encourage school participation in district and community special events such as parades; art drama, and musical presentations; assisting needy, elderly and retarded people, etc.

8. Represent the School District in state and national student activities responsibilities-committees, special events, etc.

9. Develop a curriculum of leadership education resources to support the learning experiences of student leaders at all levels.

10. Accept responsibility for all budgeted activities related to the program.

11. Serve as the vehicle for county-wide exchange of ideas and personnel resources among staff, students, and advisory committees.

12. Involve all elements of the community: students, staff, parents, citizens in constantly improving the student activities program within each school and on a county-wide basis.

13. Maintain a district wide calendar of activities and athletic events.

14. Develop community service projects and programs involving students and community based non-profit agencies.

15. Assist in the implementation of athletic special events (e.g. all star games, Big 8 Championships)

16. Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.

17. Participate, successfully in the training programs offered to increase the individual's skill and proficiency related to the assignment.

18. Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.

19. Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.

20. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Instruction/Program Services or designee.

21. Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
